Local Emergency Radio 1610 AM
San Ramon 1610 is a low-power AM radio station used locally for broadcast of real-time emergency information. The station exists to provide residents and motorists with timely and accurate information about incidents and emergency operations. Changeable message signs may be used to direct motorists to 1610 AM for conditions ahead or other event information. The portable solar/battery-powered signs are trailer-mounted and can be quickly transported as conditions warrant.
The station is operated by the City of San Ramon with transmitters located at Memorial Park and the Dougherty Valley Public Services Facility. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as a Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) system, also known as a Travelers' Information Station (TIS).
Radio and Television Coverage
Radio and television broadcasts are usually the best source of ongoing information about emergencies. In the San Ramon Valley, radio stations KCBS (740 AM) and KGO (810 AM) are excellent starting points along with San Francisco Bay Area television stations KTVU (FOX 2), KNTV (NBC 3), KRON (IND 4), KPIX (CBS 5), KGO (ABC 7).
