Home MenuPublic Access Defibrillators
Public Access Defibrillators are AEDs (automated external defibrillators) available in public and private places where large numbers of people gather. An AED is a computerized medical device that can check a person's heart rhythm and recognize when the heart requires a shock to return it to a normal rhythm. The AED uses voice prompts to guide the rescuer through the appropriate steps to take during a cardiac emergency. AEDs are very accurate and easy to use. There are many different brands of AEDs but all of them operate in a similar fashion.
Register an AED
The District strongly supports placing AEDs in targeted public areas such as schools, health clubs, community centers, office complexes and shopping centers. It is very important for the District to know where AEDs are located in the community so in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest emergency, citizens in the area can be immediately directed to the location of the nearest AED. If you know of additional AED locations not on shown on the map below within the District's jurisdiction please register the AED.
