In conjunction with local veteran's organizations and the Boy Scouts of America the District collects worn, faded and otherwise unserviceable flags and ensures their proper retirement according to law. Flags can be dropped off during normal business hours at the District's Administration Building located at 1500 Bollinger Canyon Road in San Ramon.

Collected flags are burned during special flag retirement ceremonies conducted by local scouting organizations. The laws relating to the flag of the United States of America, including its proper disposal, are located in the United States Code (Title 4, Chapter 1).
